Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The 1960-61 season saw Doug Harvey take over as captain of the Canadiens following the retirement of Maurice Richard. It was the dawn of a new era for the club and the final campaign where the multiple-time Norris Trophy winner skated for Montreal. Joining the defender in this shot is goaltender Jacques Plante, who seems to have his eyes locked on the puck. In the background, you can spot a rookie Dave Keon, who is at the beginning of a remarkable career. Offered here is a fine framed photo display featuring an on-ice portrait of the Hall of Famers, with the modern print matted. The frame does have some light white paint spatter on top and some minor wear on the front of the frame and its corners. On the back, there are some holes which were made when the display was mounted, but this should in no way take away from your enjoyment of this unique piece. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens, this framed display was likely displayed at the Montreal Forum and possibly later on at the Molson Centre/Bell Centre. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
