Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club’s comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The first player to sign with the Montreal Canadiens in 1909 after Jack Laviolette, Didier Pitre possessed a thundering shot considered by many to be the hardest in the earlier days of the sport, and would average over a-goal-a-game throughout his NHL tenure. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens and most likely displayed originally at the Montreal Forum and possibly later at the Bell Centre, we have a Hall of Fame honoured member framed photo of the 1916 Stanley Cup champion. At 6 ½” x 10” (exposed), the modern print picture’s Cannonball in his 1911-12 Habs sweater, with stick in hand, ready to engage in battle. A gold-coloured name plaque listing his induction year (1962 is listed, which is incorrect. It should read 1963) has been inserted beneath, double-matted and framed to 16” x 16”, with some light wear to the frame to note. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
