Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
Pictures and pictures and pictures of hockey players are up for grabs here and we’ll lead with the stack of Bee Hive photos, all of them Group 2 representatives. We count some 220 with however more than half (120) glued onto thin, lighter-in-color replacement backings. There are duplicates and triplicates too, with 105 different players counted but no real notable/tougher examples to mention, with an autographed Jean-Guy Talbot picture and a host of Hall of Famers noteworthy. A Howie Morenz Crown Brand photo is low grade, having been affixed to a Bee Hive backing. Scarcer but low grade as well is a 1960s set of four Wonder Sports Club photos with back damage and a pinhole or two affecting pictures of Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Dave Keon, while paper loss on the front lowers a Maurice Richard pic. Dandy color images are the work of photographer Harold Barkley in a set of (42) ’63-64 Toronto Star pictures featuring the stars of the day, with some intermittent toning, staining and soiling rendering the overall condition VG. There’s some water damage to some of the 100+ Toronto Sun photos from ’71-72 (and duplication), with however Tim Horton, Jacques Plante and some other goalie photos (mask-less Binkley and Daley) eye-catching and in nice collectible condition. An NHL action players envelope is present, along with an (EX) unused (English) Bee Hive scribbler. A swell array of images will prove entertaining to the new owner.
