Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Intriguing offering here for pursuers of vintage Canadian issues are these sepia-tone pictures, referred to as the Canadian "Butterfinger" version but in fact issued by O-Pee-Chee. Smaller than their American counterparts at 6-1/2" by 8-1/2", with approximately half of those known to exist, the lineup here is headlined by "Jimmy" Foxx, Mickey Cochrane, Dizzy Dean, Lefty Gomez, Al Simmons, Joe Cronin and Chick Hafey. Other than the multi-creased low grade Foxx example, the thin fragile productions have survived in appealing condition, with only minor peripheral flaws affecting the stars and 11 others. Meanwhile, Babe Ruth's photo and facsimile autograph appear on the title page of four little "How To Play" Quaker Oats booklets, 24-page affairs with three exhibiting only light handling/wear.
Similar to the aforementioned stars condition-wise (crease-free images) are examples of Larry Benton, Jim Bottomley, Bob Brown, Roger Cramer, Rick Ferrell, Mule Haas, Oscar Melillo, Randy Moore, Fresco Thompson, Johnny Vergez and Tom Zachary, while with an obvious crease or small edge tear or missing corner, mostly (all but one) peripheral, are pics of Edward Delker, Lew Fonseca, Frank Higgins, J. Francis Hogan, Jim Jordan (creases, two tears), Hal Lee, Walter Roettger, Gerald Walker, Paul Waner and Earl Whitehill. O-Pee-Chee scarcities constitute a splendid opportunity.
