Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
Games and gadgets and trinkets and more – what a wonderful array of hockey-related collectibles/premiums is this years-in-the-making gathering of goodies. Tiny Canadiens and Bruins pennants, a Paris Bubble Gum wrapper and two flattened boxes are scarcities from 1950, while “melamine” trays picturing Orr, Howe and Stanfield are from the early-‘70s and joined by team trays of the Habs, Wings, Rangers and Sabres, with a triangular Canadiens tray also present. 1940s Trommer’s Beer coasters (4) include a hockey example, while a 1953 Sugar Crisp Hockey Bear pin comes with a colorful vintage ad. There’s a complete (27-card) set of 1954 Quaker Sports Oddities cards, handheld games, publications and lots more – please see our website.
An extra hockey card joins the (near mint) multi-sport Sports Oddities set, with only a Maple Leafs example missing for a complete set of rare Berthierville Candy miniature plastic hockey sticks with their pucks still attached, while little gumball charms, also from the Original Six era, feature the logos of the Rangers, Black Hawks (2) and Maple Leafs (2). Two vintage Royal Crown Cola bottle caps and a paper bag designed to mail-in six such caps in exchange for a free hockey ticket to an AHL Cleveland Barons game constitute weird, wild stuff, as does an old Laura Secord chocolate hockey puck! A little Mini-Mate pinball machine includes a Bobby Orr-like image and is still in its original packaging, while a circular puck-size game and six tiny pinball games, including a Hockey-O-Rama game, are earlier productions. From the 1960s is a Gump Worsley Steinberg’s plastic tumbler, joined by the paper insert of a similar J.C. Tremblay glass. As for publications, an old Joe Palooka comic book (Canadian Edition No. 27) has a boxing cover but a Howie Morenz comic feature inside, while two ads featuring Nels Stewart are with his 1950s “How to Watch and Enjoy Hockey” booklet. Bobby Hull’s Tips on Goal Scoring booklet is accompanied by a very infrequently-seen inner wrapper from a Hull candy bar, with two such wrappers required, along with 50 cents, to acquire the booklet – neat. A little Scotia Bank booklet featuring Howe and Beliveau is also present and also from the early-‘70s are three postcard-size Charles Linnett portraits hand-signed by Bruins Johnny Bucyk, Andre Savard and Gilles Gilbert. A California Seals Beckers decal, a flattened 1978-79 Clover Leaf Milk half-gallon carton with North Stars Fred Barrett and Per-Olov Brasar cards and a circa-‘70s Hockey Set with Candy game in its original packaging almost complete things. A few miscellaneous items and a Philadelphia Flyers poster and Wheaties box panel advertising the poster promotion take care of that. So much fun stuff awaits the high bidder here!
