Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Enjoying a three-decade association with the mighty Montreal Canadiens, Hector “Toe” Blake first proudly donned the iconic Sainte-Flanelle in 1935-36, winning a pair of Stanley Cup championships along with the Hart Trophy, in 1939. Blake would famously take the reins of the Habs in 1955-56, earning an additional eight championships from behind the bench throughout his thirteen seasons as head coach. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Toe Blake by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Blake is wonderfully portrayed, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with light wear to the frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
