Fittingly the first country to claim supremacy on a global stage, Canada has won more Olympic hockey gold medals than any other nation with nine, with the Soviets and Olympic Athletes from Russia (2018) combining for eight. This lot includes a plethora of Team Canada items from both the Winter Olympics and IIHF World Championships (from 1920 until 1968 the Olympic hockey tournament also served as the World Championships), ranging from 1932 until 2002 and comprising of approx 200 total items. Included for the Olympics, we have 1932 (2, one in low grade), 1956, 1960 and 1964 Team Canada postcards, a Monarch Knit advertising card featuring Team Canada from 1932, a photo card of netminder Joe Sullivan from the 1928 Games, 11 different European photo-cards from assorted Olympiads, an RCAF media photo (1948 gold medal winners) with 34 assorted Flyers photos (mostly 8” x 10”), and more! The World Championships items include two sets of rare 1958 Whitby Dunlops playing cards (108 cards), and eleven Team Canada postcards spanning from 1938 to 1966-67.
Also included, there are 16 photos of members of the Canadian national team east from 1967-68 (5” x 7”), a ticket stub for the 2002 Olympic gold medal hockey match, 20 Olympic Hero Esso cards, a Team Canada team photo from the 2002 Games and more! The World Championships postcards include three from 1938, with one signed by goaltender John Coulter, 1956, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964-65, 1965-66 and 1966-67. Condition in the collection varies, with most of the postcards presenting well but having lower technical grades, with a few in poor condition. The Flyers photos all present beautifully with just light to moderate handling wear, with both sets of the Whitby Dunlops playing cards in beautiful condition with no issues.
