Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Well known to Bobby Orr historians and collectors as the man most responsible for the superstar’s career in Boston, Wren Blair was instrumental in a young Bobby signing with the Bruins, both working with the needs of the Orr family as well as convincing Boston management to purchase a stake in the Oshawa Generals. We offer a signed Oshawa Generals Christmas card from the longtime scout and executive, the highlight of a desirable grouping of Orr material which also includes a 1965-66 Memorial Cup program with Orr in the line-up, a Hockey News photo used for publication and a group of 10 Rexall advertising displays from the late-1960s that feature Orr and include a number of notable superstars. First, the Christmas card is 5 ½” x 8 ½” (unfolded) and undated, with a small photo of the Generals including Orr, with Blair adding a lengthy personalization to his ballpoint signature (the photo is loose within the card, with a small tear along the fold line). Next, the Memorial Cup program is a simple 5 ½” x 8 ½” three-page fold-over affair, with Orr listed in the line-up, and light handling wear throughout including a vertical crease. This is followed by the Hockey News photo, with the 8” x 10” glossy black and white image mounted to artist board (9 ½” x 11”), with editorial notes added to the cover and moderate wear throughout. Lastly, the Rexall Super Plenamins displays are cardboard and measure 12” x 12”, with perforation marks to each, along with Rexall and NHL logos. The group remain in high grade and show just light wear, with the game-action images to include Orr (with Cheevers), Beliveau/Crozier, Hull, Vachon, Gamble/Pronovost, Hall/Richard, Penguins/Rangers, Flyers/North Stars, Rangers/Kings and a cover piece that shows emblems from each NHL club.
