Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Earning considerable accolades as the first player in NHL history to be awarded the Hart Memorial and Lady Byng Trophies during the same season, in 1947-48, Buddy O’Connor would also finish second in the scoring race to Elmer Lach that year, his first with the Blueshirts in Manhattan. His well-deserved fame would be appropriated for use on this rarely-seen New York Rangers CCM advertising stand-up display from 1947-48. At approx 14” x 20” at the widest points including the easel, O’Connor is depicted in his Rangers uniform, with text beneath listing his trophy wins from that campaign, along with the CCM tag line of “The Joy of Amateurs… The Pride of Professionals” along the base. Accompanying the display, we have a CCM Brown Border photo of the 1933-34 Rangers (8 ¾” x 11”), with light wear present.
The display survives in especially pleasing condition, completely intact and original, with the easel back in place and operational. There is just light wear overall which includes edge wear along the bottom border, a blemish over the bottom right and a crease to O’Connor’s head.
