Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
The Montreal Expos offered a fitting tribute to hockey legend Maurice Richard the 2000 season. In the wake of the Rocket’s death on May 27, 2000, the city’s National League baseball team honored the Habs icon by adding No. 9 memorial patch to their jerseys, which they wore on their home and away uniforms throughout the rest of the 2000 season. Expos pitcher Mike Thurman’s 2000 Expos game-worn home jersey displays the black twill number sewn on the right sleeve, a simple yet perfect tribute bridging the two sports. The Russell Athletic MLB Diamond Collection size 48 tag sewn on the left front tail has two flag tags at the bottom, including one that reads “2” Extra Body Length”, which testifies to the 6-foot-4 righthander’s size. Gorgeous Expos patch is sewn on the left sleeve of this beauty that displays a number of reddish-brown spots stains on the front and back areas of the right shoulder and the upper right sleeve, between the numbers and the surname letters sewn directly on the jersey, and below the numbers on the back. There are black marks on the front and rear tails and possible dirt stains on the left front tail. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to Expos Fest benefiting the Kat D DIPG Foundation at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Comes with a Florida Marlins LOA signed by equipment manager John Silverman, who previously held the same position with the Expos.
