With over 3 million subscribers, Sports Illustrated is the world’s foremost sports magazine, with the first issue originally rolling off presses in the summer of 1954. This lot offers a large partial run of the first 12 years of the publication, ranging from 1954 to 1965 and totaling approx 482 out of a possible 592 issues. Highlighted by the first two issues with intact baseball cards, the April 11, 1955 issue that includes a page with photos of six 1955 Topps cards is also present. Included by year, we have approx 19 issues for 1954, 42 for 1955, 44 from 1956, 41 for 1957, 35 for 1958, 46 for 1959, 43 for 1960, 44 for 1961, 44 for 1962, 42 for 1963, 41 for 1964 and 41 for 1965. The inaugural issue has detached and damaged covers with toning the main issue for the interior pages, with the 1954 Topps baseball card fold-out showing just light wear. The second issue exhibits heavy wear including some minor soiling along with rusting to the staples, with some additional wear including soiling and creasing to the baseball card fold-out. The April 11, 1955 issue shows moderate to heavier wear including damage along the spine, with the baseball card page in pleasing condition, exhibiting a few small and minor stains. The remaining issues vary in condition as expected, with the majority showing moderate to heavier wear.
