Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Relive the excitement of the 1945-46 season with this collection of five issues of the Montreal Forum Sports Magazine as many NHL talents returned from fighting overseas and Canada entered a time of post-War prosperity. The Canadiens went on to win their second Stanley Cup in a three-year span that year and readers can get plenty of insight into the team on these complete and unmarked publications. While you won’t get these programs for their original cover price of one thin dime, they are flush with snippets in both French and English of hockey’s past that will please many hockey historians.
Included in this lot are intact programs from Bill Durnan’s 2-0 shutout of the Rangers on November 15, 1945 (VG, wear on spine, Ice Capades content), a 3-3 tie featuring two goals from Maurice Richard against the Boston Bruins on December 15, 1945 (VG+, some wear along spine), a tough 2-1 loss to Chicago on January 16, 1946 (VG, small paper loss on spine) a 3-3 tie while facing the Detroit Red Wings on March 2, 1946 (EX, minor spine wear), and the second-last regular season home game from March 14, 1946 where they skated to a 2-2 tie with the rival Toronto Maple Leafs (F/VG, small creases on cover and some paper loss on or near spine). The last two programs have colour ads on the back featuring The Punch Line of Richard, Elmer Lach, and Toe Blake. The ad on the March 14 features a bold signature from Richard.
