Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Items from superstar Luc Robitaille’s time in both the NHL and while representing his nation internationally are offered in this large lot, highlighted by an attractive framed display presented by the HHOF that features an inserted canvas (12 ½” x 18 ½”), with numerous images of Robitaille throughout his remarkable career, framed to full dimensions of approx 20” x 26” (there is wear to the frame). The additional treasures offered include four sticks – with a trio from the early-2000s – with each having an earlier game-used Christian blade inserted, gloves from the mid-1990s, a Team Canada 1991 Canada Cup jacket, LA Kings equipment bag, and a pair of Jofa shin pads. A signed LOA from Luc Robitaille will accompany.
The gloves are Sher-Wood 9950 models from the mid-1990s with “20” handwritten on each, and we were unable to find any photos of Robitaille wearing this exact model. The gloves show moderate use, with red paint transfer on the left glove. The equipment bag is in solid black with Kings logos over each side. Heavy wear from use is shown, and despite coming from his collection, we are unsure if this bag was used by Robitaille. Next, the 1991 Canada Cup jacket was produced by Starter, with “M” sizing along the collar and an embroidered Hockey Canada logo over the left breast. The jacket remains in beautiful condition, while the shin pads show wear from use, with a bit of blood staining within each. Lastly, the sticks all have “Robitaille” over the upper shaft and include Innovative 1100 and Warrior game sticks, with these types of models used in 2005-06, along with a Innovative Inno 2000 game stick from 2003-04, with all three sporting game-used Christian stick blades from the mid-1990s (the Warrior stick also appears to show game use, with tape over the handle). The final game stick is a Sher-Wood Graphite model from circa 1992-93, with “Robitaille” and “20” over the shaft, with the inserted blade slightly differing from the type originally used with this model shaft.
A portion of the sales from the Luc Robitaille personal collection will benefit the Echoes of Hope Foundation. Founded in 2007 by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope strives to awaken the spirit of hope in the lives of children, youth, and young adults in need by alleviating barriers and helping them reach their full potential.
