Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
An intriguing story accompanies the intriguing image here, the latter depicting Hall of Fame shortstop Joe Tinker batting, with his ball glove in his back pocket! and as a member of the Chicago "Feds" (also known as the "Whales"). Tinker was considered the first player to jump to the Federal League and as a player-manager led the Whales, (they drew more fans than the Cubs), to the pennant in 1915 despite not playing following a torn muscle in May. This GOOD 2 example, with a creasing descending from the top edge to attain Joe's ball cap and rounded corners, is just one of 14 such cards ever to have been encapsulated by PSA in the history of the grading firm. Two EX 5s, three VG 3s and a GOOD+ 2.5 are ahead of this Pop 4. Tinker was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946 along with his fellow legendary Chicago Cubs infield mates Johnny Evers and Frank Chance.
