Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Seeking to capitalize on the success of the St Lawrence Starch Company's Beehive hockey picture promotion, the Canada Starch Company responded with its set of similar thin-stock black and white sepia tone pictures (4 3/8” x 6 3/8”) affixed to larger, colorful card stock mounts (6 5/8” x 8 5/8”). The promotion would run from 1935 to 1940, with the set complete at 68. This lot offers a group of 20 including Howie Morenz, with each detached from it’s original mount (all backings are present). Included, we have the aforementioned Morenz, along with Joliat, Haynes (incorrect backing), Cain (mounted to incorrect backing), Mantha, Lesieur, Bushwell, Jenkins, Beverage, Voss, Gagnon, Evans, Burke, MacKenzie, Blake, Northcott, Desilets, Lorraine and Cliff Groupille. The majority sport tape residue to each corner, with additional wear and residue to the mounts. A few also show heavier wear with creasing, including the Groupille, Cain, Jenkins and Northcott. Also included with the lot are four damaged/detached Beehives with Aurie, Dineen, Colville and Goodfellow, along with 14 1989 Panini MLB team stickers.
