Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
A product of Boston University, Chris Drury represented four different NHL clubs throughout his professional tenure, with the Calder Memorial won in 1999 with the Colorado Avalanche. We have a photo-matched stick used by the star to score the winning goal for Colorado, in Game 4 of the 2001-02 Western Conference Finals vs Detroit, on May 25, 2002, and it’s accompanied by a matching stick from the era, along with Drury’s Avalanche equipment bag. An Easton Synergy model with “18 Drury” factory graphics (Drury wore the #37 jersey for Colorado during his first three seasons with the club, switching to #18 for the 2001-02 season, his final in Denver), the original white tape is in place on the blade, with a black cloth wrap over the knob reinforced with a strand of maroon tape. “24” has been written over the knob, with “AJM DET” also handwritten beneath the knob. Hailing from the personal collection of an important hockey executive, his signed LOA will accompany.
The stick shows great use, with puck marks to both sides of the blade and abrasions to the shaft, with Drury signing over the heel section in silver, with no issues for the autograph. Getty Image #618323 (Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals) has been matched to the handwritten “AJM DET” near the top of the shaft, to the maroon and black tape, and to the general placement of all three. The second stick hails from Drury’s earlier time with the Avalanche (circa 2000), with “37 Drury” factory graphics, with the original white tape in place on the blade and black on the knob ("24" is also written on the top of the knob of this stick, with Getty Image #627355 from October of 2001 showing a third example similarly marked), with heavy use exhibited, with wear to the taped section of blade and heavy marks to the shaft. “HP” also appears handwritten on the underside of the shaft. The equipment bag is in solid black with blue trim, with Drury’s “37” on one side, along with embroidered Aves logo on each side. The bag exhibits great use with no obtrusive damage or tears.
