Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Multiple premiums are represented here, with those available through York Peanut Butter in the 1960s headlining and highlighted by 1960-61 (5” x 7”) photos of Canadiens’ goaltenders Jacques Plante and Charlie Hodge. They both exhibit only minimal corner wear, with small light creases (2) and bends (2) rendering the Plante VG and the crease-free (EX) Hodge including curious red stamping on the back in French that translates to “This Offer is Now Discontinued.” York octagon-shaped cards meanwhile are led by two crease-free EX examples (Gilles Tremblay white back and Bert Olmstead yellow back) and joined by stained and/or creased white backs of 23-Talbot, 32-Reaume and 44-Stratton. Infrequently seen is a similar-size card which acted as an order form for two rarely seen York towels which could be had for $1, for both! Staining is to report but very cool. A picture on paper stock featuring the Canadiens’ Gagnon-Morenz-Joliat line dates back to the 1940s and is a Parade Sportive production that was either trimmed or miscut, with Crown Brand photos re-glued top and bottom to original beige backings totaling six and led by Hall of Famer Marty Barry in a Canadiens uniform. A Quaker Oates picture of the three-time Stanley Cup champion Maple Leafs of the late-1940s has a couple of light creases and a few light bends but displays well with sharp corners and a problem-free back. Lesser condition pictures of Toronto’s Bill Ezinicki and Montreal’s Joe Carveth are present and then there are Bee Hive photos in attractive condition picturing Armstrong, Beliveau, Broda and Worsley. With pinholes is a Group 1 shot of Detroit goalie Normie Smith. A few low grade trading cards include ’33-34 O-Pee-Chee rookie cards of Habs Pit Lepine and Nick Wasnie (both with back damage) and a trio of ’52-53 Parkies; Allan Stanley is hammered while 20-Hergesheimer and 30-Gardner are nicer but do not make it to VG. Finally, there’s a scarce ’69-70 Canadiens pocket schedule by J.B. Rolland & Fils which is crease-free and unmarked, a ’73-74 OPC Flyers “ring” insert and two wrappers; ’77-78 OPC WHA and ’80-81 OPC. Lot of possibilities with these interesting vintage collectibles.
