Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Six less-often-seen Bee Hive pictures here feature intriguing images of well-known trophies, some of which have changed their looks since the 1930s, with flipping up the photo itself allowing the beholder to check out previous winners up until and including 1938-39. The Georges Vezina Trophy, the Hart, the Calder and the Byng are NHL representatives, while the Allan Cup (senior hockey) and Memorial Cup (junior) are amateur entries. All are in what we deem to be nice collectible condition, with no unsightly flaws and only one obvious crease in the backing of the Allan Cup example. The rest do not include any pictures considered real tough to locate, but with a host of goalies, stars and Hall of Famers present and 11 New York Americans carrying some weight/value. The team breakdown is as follows: Boston - 4 (Tiny Thompson), Chicago - 5 (Chabot, Karakas, Seibert), Detroit - 12 (Aurie, Howe), Canadiens - 3, Maroons - 3 (Cain, Connell, Ward), Americans - 11 (Anderson, Carr, Dutton, Field, Gallagher, Jerwa, Murray, Robertson, Schriner, Wiseman, Worters low grade), Rangers - 11 (Hextall, Patrick brothers, Smith) and Toronto - 15 (Apps, Day, Drillon, Hainsworth, Horner). Condition is handled but not abused, with nothing high grade and some obvious amateurishly re-glued pictures, including on incorrect colored backings. Still, some six dozen Group 1 Bee Hives, including six desirable trophies, will be a good score for someone.
