Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Always intriguing are batches of "Ice Kings", with King Clancy's card leading the lineup here, albeit in multi-creased Poor condition, similar to a dozen others. More attractive are rookie cards of Syd Howe (G) and Bill Cook (VG appearance), with the latter exhibiting uneven edges, suggesting a miscut, while obvious not-straight edges of a Hap Emms rookie card suggest trimming. A heavy crease affects a Joe Primeau RC (F), while the not-hammered cards are 2-Brydge RC and 62-Roche (both VG), along with F to G examples of 24-Carson, 35-Patterson RC, 41-Lamb, 45-Brennan, 54-Ripley, 56-Dutkowski and 69-Cox - all of them RCs. Cards of Ace Bailey RC (hole), Hooley Smith and Cy Wentworth RC are most noteworthy in the low grade dozen that join Clancy, while a 21-Johnny Gagnon RC displays as a VG example but is lowered by back damage in the form of paper loss. A welcome complement is a rather attractive big Ice King Premium of Hap Day, with the 7" by 9" sturdy cardboard piece no better than VG due to side-to-side light creasing in the upper region that cuts through the legendary Leaf's eyes. For those concerned with the backs of the cards, there is an even mix of bilingual (14) and English (14) versions. Classic pre-war collectibles await the high bidder.
