Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Saying a final goodbye to the supporters at Madison Square Garden and the hockey world at large, Wayne Gretzky would don his Blueshirt uniform for the last time on April 18, 1999, concluding the greatest career in hockey history. This collection pays tribute to The Great One’s final hurrah, and includes a signed “99” Rangers final game cap, signed final game pass and silver “99” cigar holder (with original “99” cigar), all from the post game party, accompanied by a NYR final game media kit. The pass is approx 4 ½” x 7 ½” with Wayne pictured along with the date, with a blue marker signature added, with just light wear. The final game cap has “99” across the front along with a Rangers logo and the final game date on the reverse, with Wayne adding a blue marker signature to the underside of the brim, with a bit of bleeding occurring. The silver cigar holder has “99” engraved with some tarnishing present, with the original box with ribbon included. The media kit includes a pictorial cover folder, a 1998-99 Rangers yearbook, a number of Wayne Gretzky stat sheets, an oversized limited-edition Gretzky line-up card for the final game, a 1998-99 Rangers team photo (11” x 17”), a Gretzky print (11” x 17”), a “Thanks for the Memories” placard (12” x 18”) and more. The majority of the media kit items are in very good condition, with some creasing and corner bends to the team photo, placard and print. Seven full newspapers announcing Wayne's departure are also included, with the New York Post, USA Today, The Toronto Star and others.
