What goaltender did the Canadian Press select for their 1st All-Star Team in 1937-38? What year did the NHL increase to a 36-game schedule? These questions and many others regarding our nation’s fascinating sport of hockey and it’s history can be deciphered from this collection of vintage guides and publications totaling 43 and ranging from the 1930s to 1960. Included, we have James C. Hendy guides for 1935, 1940, 1946, 1947 (2), 1948 (3, with 2 guides and 1 Who’s Who), 1949, 1950 and 1951, NHL Press and Radio Guides for 1952-53, 1953-54, 1954-55 (2), 1955-56, 1961-62 (2), 1966-67 and 1982-83, a Sweet Caporal guide from 1939-40, Hockey “Fotos” albums from 1948-49 (2, with an original advertisement and envelope also included), 1949-50 (3) and 1950-51 (3), NHL Record Books for 1949 (Bill Durnan cover) and 1966, and Toronto Hockey League Rule Books for 1937-38, 1938-39, 1939-40 and 1940-41. Additional publications include a “How to Play Winning Hockey” booklet from 1936, a “The Famous Bentleys” booklet featuring the Bentley family, a Hockey Illustrated Register guide from 1964-65 and more. The majority of the guides show moderate handling, with a few in like-new condition. There are also examples in lower grade, including the 1935 (taped spine and heavy wear) and 1946 Hendy guides (poor, with cut cover and clear tape) and the 1939-40 Sweet Caporal guide (cover torn along spine and heavily creased).
