Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
As our title indicates, various goodies comprise this lot, with several decades represented and dating way back to 1924-25 and a little Maple Crispette card picturing Hamilton Tigers' goaltender Jake Forbes. It's multi-creased and Poor, with half of the reverse ripped off but all right for those who would just like to own a scarce Maple Crispette example. Forbes, by the way, led the NHL with 19 wins (30-game schedule) the year the card was issued. Two of the four hockey subjects in Berk Ross' 1951 Hit Parade of Champions multi-sport card set are present here, with Hall of Famers Sid Abel and Bill Quackenbush in crease-free shape and in the EX neighborhood, while another Detroit Red Wing, Gordie Howe appears on a '68-69 Topps card that he signed in fine but bold ink. The horizontal orientation of the card contributes to the great eye appeal, with the autograph authenticated by PSA and the card itself appearing EX through the PSA holder. Also from the 1960s are partial sets of 1964-65 Toronto Star photos (40) and '65-66 Coca-Cola cards. The former show evidence of handling and of having been placed in "folders" designed to hold them, with indentations at the corners and intermittent additional creases rendering the group not so nice but still with great Original Six era action shots. The Coke lineup includes near team sets of the Maple Leafs (16/18) and Rangers (17/18) but with the accordion-style affairs in two or three sections and a nine-card Canadiens strip exhibiting tape/stains. A dozen miscellaneous singles are throw-ins. Skipping then a decade to land in the 1980s, where an '82-83 Neilson complete 50-card Wayne Gretzky set exhibits very little handling/wear, with only intermittent touched corners/white specs to report. Completing is a box of Erin Lindros three-card Score promotional card sets (over 125), still in their original sealed form. A nifty little lot for a collector or dealer awaits the high bidder here.
