Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
All-time goaltending greats are featured in this all-goalie assembly, with Jacques Plante leading the way. With beauty coloring and pleasing centering is a crease-free 1958-59 Parkhurst card which is EX or very close to it (VG-EX+), while at VG are two '59-60 Parkies. The same image of a crouching Jacques appears on '60-61 (VG-EX) and '61-62 entries, with the latter F due to multiple light creases and purple crayon on the reverse. A '64-65 Topps tall boy Plante is VG-EX+, while a Johnny Bower card from the same issue is EX+. Johnny is misidentified as "Bowers" on his '58-59 Parkie, recently slabbed VG-EX 4 by PSA. In a big PSA holder and also graded VG-EX 4 is a 1964-65 Toronto Star photo of Plante in action with the Rangers. Metal Shirriff coins from '62-63 feature Plante (#s 25, 43) and Bower but are low grade. Other encapsulated contributors are a 1953-54 Parkhurst #1-Gerry McNeil card with Lucky Premium back, graded GOOD+ 2.5 by SGC, with Terry Sawchuk's classic '54-55 Topps card receiving a 2.5 GOOD+ mark from ACA, with a tiny "10" in pen in the lower right corner on the front to be aware of. Premium photos complete the lot, with three Rangers among them; a Jim Franks Bee Hive Group 1 picture is low grade, with a Davey Kerr Crown Brand photo displaying well on its original backing despite a crease in the latter. There's also a Gump Worsley Group 2 Bee Hive, a Crown Brand of Maroons' goalie Bill Beveridge (no backing) and a Group 1 Bee Hive of Toronto's Phil Stein with a trimmed, mostly missing blue backing. Backing their teammates to numerous Stanley Cup titles were these mostly memorable (and courageous!) men.
