One of the oldest hockey organizations in existence, the Ontario Hockey Association was formed in 1890 to govern amateur play in Ontario. Known as the Ontario Hockey League since 1980, we offer five vintage team-signed OHA items hailing from the 1940s to 1960s. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, included are team-signed sheets for the 1949-50 Allan Cup-champion OHA Sr. Toronto Marlboros, 1946-47 OHA Jr. Toronto St. Michael's Majors and 1946-47 OHA Sr. Hamilton Tigers, along with programs signed by the 1956-57 OHA Sr. "A" Chatam Maroons and 1961-62 OHA Junior "A" Guelph Royals. Highlights include deceased HOFer Joe Primeau, who signed both the Marlboros and Majors sheets as head coach.
The team-signed sheets are card stock at approx 5 ½” x 7” give or take, with the team and year listed on the front or reverse and the signatures placed in two vertical rows. The signatures have all been scripted in ink and display well, with a few smudges to the Majors sheet. The Primeau signatures display well, with other notables to include Flash Hollett, Alf Childs and Gord Hannigan for the Marlboros, Fleming Mackell for the Majors and George Redding for the Tigers. The programs are both approx 7” x 10” and show light wear, with 19 signing the Guelph program on the cover in matching ink including Bob Plager, while a dozen have signed interior pages of the Maroons program near their respective image (the center spread is detached).
