Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The gold standard since 1909 and unequivocally the most successful hockey team in history, the Montreal Canadiens have featured some of the greatest all-time players, with just 15 jersey numbers retired by the legendary club in the past century. Celebrating just the third player honoured behind Howie Morenz and Maurice Richard, we have a retirement banner replica signed by legendary Hab Jean Beliveau, accompanied by four signed and framed displays. At approx 48” in length (widest points), the vinyl dual-sided banner feature’s the iconic “4” worn by Beliveau, with his career years listed along the base (1950-1971). Jean has signed one side in gold, adding “HOF 1972”, with “2/4” listed beneath to show the edition is limited. The signed displays include a litho by Walter Burden (11 ½” x 12 ½”, pencil), a photo with Cup (14” x 18”, blue marker), Jean’s Habs tickets (16” x 37 ½”, silver marker) and Habs/Aces photos (21” x 24”, black marker – dual signed). A framed LOA signed by Jean Beliveau will accompany for the banner (15 ½” x 16”).
The signature on the banner displays nicely, and blends into the dark background slightly, with just light wear to the banner itself. As mentioned, the banner LOA has been framed, with a name plaque added along with a photo of Beliveau holding one of the banners, with the LOA signed in black ink. The framed Walter Burden litho is called “Saturday’s Heros”, with a plaque added beneath, with Jean signing in pencil. Next, the “photo with Cup” display includes an 8” x 10” photo of Beliveau with the Cup, with Jean signing over his image in blue sharpie. This is followed by the Habs tickets display, with Jean's four personal Habs tickets to the Dec 14, 2006 match vs Tampa Bay framed, with each signed in silver, with a photo, plaque and Canadiens jersey crest added. Lastly, the “Habs/Aces” display features 8” x 10” photos of Jean with each club, with each signed in black marker, with small plaques added beneath each.
