This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Hockey’s original shrine and the setting of countless historical tilts beginning in the Roaring Twenties and concluding with the completion of the Bell Centre in 1996, the Montreal Forum was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1997, due to its sheer importance serving “as an icon for the role of hockey in Canada's national culture”. The color scheme of the seats at the old Montreal Forum reflected the famous team colors as evidenced by this single white seat, which was removed from the iconic arena after the final game was played, on March 11, 1996. The number “5” is stenciled in red on the seat back along with the row and section numbers and “Montreal Forum 1924-1996”, with a Habs team decal added over the upper right. Additional Canadiens’ logos in solid red sit embossed on each of the lower supports, with the chair’s total height just over 34”. A trio of framed Habs displays accompany, including an example that features final game tickets to the Forum along with an inaugural game ticket for the Bell Centre (then Molson Centre).
Showing nice use and remaining in pleasing, displayable condition, the metal seat bottom is slightly bent with a few dents and surface chips present, with the seat operating fine and sitting flush. There is also some light wear to the seat back along with a few chips. The seat covering remains completely intact and tear-free. The last game at the Forum/first game at Bell Centre display includes a pair of Forum tickets for the final contest on March 11, 1996, with an inaugural Bell Centre ticket placed above and inaugural game souvenir puck beneath, framed to approx 17” x 21” (there is wear to the frame including white stains along the left side). The second frame feature’s a program, ticket and pin for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal, with French text beneath, with each piece matted, framed to approx 19” x 21 ½”. The final display feature’s a Canadiens centennial program and ticket (Dec 4, 2009), with a plaque over the bottom left listing the particulars, framed to approx 18” x 20 ½”.
