Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
With the admission price a mere single bid, we invite you to take a wonderful trip through time, and relive the glorious past of the fabled Montreal Canadiens with this large collection of programs totaling approx 57 and ranging from the 1920s to 1980s. Starting with a single example from the roaring ‘20s for a Habs’ exhibition game in Chicoutimi in 1928, there is also a single program from the 1930s, 19 programs from the 1940s, 17 from the 1950s, 8 each from the 1960s and 1970s respectively, and 3 examples from the 1980s. The collection is highlighted by a very desirable copy of the program from Maurice Richard’s important 500th goal – the first 500th goal in NHL history – scored at the Montreal Forum, on Oct 19, 1957. Hours of enjoyable perusing awaits the lucky winner!
We should note that a number of the programs in the collection are for minor league and exhibition games, with the possibility of a few playoff gems included feasible. Condition also ranges, with the majority in pleasing condition, exhibiting just expected handling wear commensurate with their former use, with some examples showing heavier wear and even damage, including paper loss, tears, loose centerfolds, spine damage and toning. The 1928 exhibition program is a simple fold-over affair (4” x 7” folded), with creases, edge tears and a few small stains. The single program from the 1930s originates from a Forum game between the Habs and New York Americans, on Jan 24, 1931, and it is currently in poor condition, with paper loss to the covers and soiling, along with rusting to the staples.
