One of the greatest leaders in NHL history, Mark Messier spent three productive seasons in Vancouver beginning in 1997-98. From his last season in British Columbia, we have a Canucks captain’s jersey worn by the HOFer. The jersey has the NHL’s commemorative "2000" patch on the right breast and the captain’s "C" on the opposite side and is tagged in the collar as a "CCM", which has a handwritten "11", and has a separate size "56" fly tag. There are embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Styled with a gorgeous Canucks team crest with embroidered highlights, the V-neck sweater has been embellished with textured sleeve and verso numbers. The inside hem features a sewn-on “1999 2000 Game Worn Limited Edition” team patch while the fight strap has a handwritten "11" as well as "S.J. & COL." higher above. The Canucks played the Avalanche three times on the road during the 1999-2000 season and twice they visited the Sharks. We believe the annotations on the fight strap refers to the games played on March 20th 2000 vs the Colorado Avalanche and on March 22nd 2000 vs the San Jose Sharks. The jersey exhibits decent game wear, for a sweater worn in a couple of games, including a 5" long thick bold black mark on the lower front of the jersey. A pair of 1 ½” marks are also noticeable in the silver striping on the lower front of the jersey as well as a few small material snags. Half a dozen or so faint small marks are visible on the sleeves with a few more visible on the front of the jersey. A dozen of small material snags/pilling spots are showing on the left breast/shoulder/upper sleeve area. The back numbers are signed by Messier "To Dave, lots of luck!, Mark Messier #11", the dedication is for Dave Schima who was an assistant medical trainer with the Canucks from 1991 to 2000 and his signed LOA will accompany.
