The Montreal Canadiens record holder for most goals in a season by a defenceman, Guy Lapointe was a member of the Habs’ “Big Three” defenders, with appearances at four NHL All-Star Games. Originating from the 1978 Stanley Cup playoffs, we have a stick used by Lapointe in Game 2 of the semifinals vs Toronto, on May 4, 1978, won by the Canadiens 3-2 on route to a 4-0 series win and the club’s third consecutive championship. A Canadian fiberglass model, “Guy Lapointe” and “5” appear over the upper shaft, with the multi-coloured striping accent intact. Guy’s original white tape over the knob is in place, with no tape ever placed over the blade – with this confirmed by photos from the 1978 playoffs that show Lapointe using this exact model of stick with an untapped blade. Originally acquired from the personal collection of a Montreal Forum usherette, the date of the game has been handwritten on the underside of the lower shaft, with nice overall use exhibited on the lumber, with puck marks and wear to the blade including the underside, with additional wear and marks including red paint transfer to the shaft.
