Still lamented by Nordiques supporters, the Colorado Avalanche would finish first in the Patrick Division during their inaugural season in Denver after relocating from Quebec, in 1995-96. Led by a strong contingent of HOFers that included Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg, the Aves would advance to the Stanley Cup finals and sweep the Florida Panthers to claim their first championship in franchise history. This unawarded 1996 Stanley Cup championship trophy was produced by Boffey, and is similar to the examples awarded to each member of the Colorado Avalanche by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the team executives, with “Colorado Avalanche” and “1995-96” engraved above.
In gorgeous condition with just a bit of surface wear visible in spots including along the rim, there are also a couple minor scratches present over the engraved text.
