Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Terrific hoard for those who love sifting through all types of Bee Hives in all types of condition is this stash, with the most interesting/valuable photos highlighted by Group 1 trophies, some 350 Group 2 jobs and 125 Group 3s. We’re talking about photos in decent to real nice collectible condition, with approximately 250 others low grade, albeit with scarce examples present. Group 2 team totals, with notables, are Boston 62 (Creighton, Connelly, Godfrey), Chicago 59 (Lunde, Turner), Detroit 57 (Bucyk, Enio, Hillman, Howe away, Stasiuk), Montreal 40 (Warwick), New York 51 (Bower, Bentley, “Jean” Ratelle) and Toronto 94 (Bathgate (2), Cullen error, Conacher, Nick Metz, Reid). We’re out of space – please see our website for further details and images.
There is duplication among the Group 2s, with doubles of stars Howe home, Sawchuk with blade, Beliveau, Plante, Hull, Horton, Keon and plenty of others. …..As for the Group 1 trophies, the Stanley Cup (diagonal script) has a blank back, as do the Allan, Byng, Calder and Vezina trophies, with dated examples of the Hart Trophy and Memorial Cup. They’re in rather pleasing VG to VG-EX condition. Other Group 1s in the VG neighborhood total 55, with the most notable being the Canadiens’ Singbush, Jim Henry (vertical) of the Rangers, the Leafs’ Phil Stein and New York Americans Anderson, Dutton and Wycherly. …..The contingent of “Woodgrains” features 10 Bruins, 23 Black Hawks (Stanfield, Hull promotional), 27 Red Wings, 17 Canadiens, 21 Rangers (Henry, Labossiere, Paille, Plante) and 24 Maple Leafs. It should be noted that intermittent photos throughout have very small digits pencilled to the back – i.e. “4, 6, 10, 12” etc. which represent one-time prices. …..Finally, the aforementioned low grade pile features pictures from all three eras, with some rather unsightly flaws that include one or more of the following: poorly re-glued pictures, pics re-glued to replacement backings, writing on the back, tape, water damage, discoloration and handling wear (creases, corner/edge wear). The scarcer ones are pictured below. Like we like to say, “numerous possibilities await the high bidder here.”
