An intriguing look at NHL salaries a half-century ago, this standard NHL player’s contract (with attached cover letter) written for longtime Hab Gilles Tremblay for his final NHL season in 1968-69 called for a $27,000 salary, with a number of $1,000 bonuses listed including if the Canadiens finish in first and for winning the Stanley Cup. Signed by Tremblay and NHL president Clarence Campbell, the bonus clauses listed are both individual and team-related. A May 23, 1968 letter typed in French and signed by Sam Pollock is also included, along with accompanying documents listing all the money Pollock and the Habs owed Tremblay following the Canadiens' Stanley Cup win the previous season. Pollock states that it is a pleasure to send a cheque to Tremblay and that a second one will be forthcoming. The documents will be accompanied by a signed LOA from Gilles Tremblay.
