Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Already an established star and the hero of his nation when Paul Henderson made the transition from the NHL to the WHA in 1974-75, a pair of seasons were first spent with the Toronto Toros before three years representing the Birmingham Bulls. This collection of WHA material originates from superstar Paul Henderson’s personal collection, with the lot dominated by desirable photos. First, we have a group of 18 8” x 10” photos (heavy duplication) which includes team photos for both the Toros and Bulls, followed by 17 3 ½” x 5” photos (with duplication) including a trio of matching team photos. Next, there are 3 5” x 7” photos including a team image, a Bulls WHA puck, Toros media guides for 1974-75 and 1975-76, a Toros pamphlet, two matching 1975 Toros programs with Henderson covers, and a 1975 WHA All-Star Game program. As an added bonus, 10 large scrapbooks are also included, with these featuring both hockey (from Paul’s time in the NHL with Detroit) and non-hockey. A signed LOA from Paul Henderson will accompany.
The majority of the photos in the collection show light wear with no issues, with just light toning to the labels on the Bulls puck. The scrapbooks include a large pair from the mid-1960s while Henderson was with Detrioit (15” x 17 ½” – both filled with just newspaper clippings), while the other 8 are smaller (approx 11” x 15”), with family items, newspaper clipping and assorted mementos including Christmas cards. Each scrapbook also shows heavy wear from use, with the majority damaged and falling apart.
