Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Deciding on a newer and safer helmet design while sitting out recuperating from a concussion during the 1997-98 season, we have a photo-matched helmet used by superstar Paul Kariya that was signed and gifted to the CCM rep he met with, in March of 1998. In solid white with intact Itech visor, strapping and interior padding, Anaheim decals grace each side, with “9” in Ducks’ colours over the lower reverse. Kariya has signed over the forehead section in black marker, adding the date of “3/25/98”. The signature displays well, with a few areas that were rubbed from handling. Nice game use is also exhibited on the headgear, with marks, abrasions and scratches all visible, along with salting/rusting to the chin strap clasp.
Getty Image #326748 from Jan 14, 1998, has been matched to the perfect placement of the team sticker on the right side and its exact placement in correlation to the CCM logo beneath it, and to the diagonal scratch in "It” of “Itech” on the visor on the right side. Getty Image #246897 from Dec 12, 1997, appears to be showing the same wear pattern to the foam on the lower reverse of the helmet, but the image is not in high enough resolution to be called a definitive photo-match.
