Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
With a trade in the works shortly after leading the Edmonton Oilers to their fourth Stanley Cup championship in the spring of 1988, Wayne Gretzky accepted the deal between Peter Pocklington and Kings’ owner Bruce McNall, with the only stipulation being that both Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski accompany Wayne to Los Angeles. From his final season with the Edmonton Oilers where he left the city a Stanley Cup champion, we have a Gretzky model stick, team-signed by the 1987-88 Edmonton Oilers. A Titan TPM 2020 model with “Gretzky” stamped over the upper shaft, the stick has been cut down to the proper length for Wayne, with the superstar signing the front side of the shaft in blue marker along with 18 additional signers including Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Lowe and others.
The additional signers include Tikkanen, Simpson, Smith, Huddy, MacTavish, McSorley, Beukeboom, McClelland, Fuhr, Gregg, Ranford and two others. The signatures present wonderfully with just a bit of wear to the stick, primarily over the blade and lower shaft.
