Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Dubbed the "Sportsman of the Year" in 1982 by Sports Illustrated, Wayne Gretzky set a number of unbreakable records during the 1981-82 NHL season including scoring 50 goals in just 39 games, with his 92 goals at the conclusion of the season crushing the previous record of 76, set by Phil Esposito. The Great One would also become the only player in NHL history to top the 200-point plateau. From his historic third NHL season, we have a signed stick that was issued to Wayne Gretzky, in 1981-82. A Titan TPM 3020 model with “W. Gretzky” boldly stamped over the upper shaft, the striping accent is intact, with a date code of “Nov 24 1981” visible on the underside. The stick has been cut down to the proper length for Wayne, with the icon signing the front side of the blade in black marker, adding a “Merry Xmas” personalization. From his Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B Pearson-winning season of 1981-82, this important stick hails from the incomparable collection of Shawn Chaulk.
There is some light age and storage wear to the stick, with a few random marks present along with some minor chipping at the knob and a small stain on the underside of the handle. A nail has also been affixed midway down the shaft, with it just breaking the surface over the opposite side of the shaft.
