An extraordinary piece of Montreal Forum game-used memorabilia is this InGlasCo-Bettman game puck, plucked from the ice when the final siren sounded on Monday, March 11th, 1996 as the Montreal Canadiens played their last game in the storied building at the corner of Saint Catherine and Atwater streets. It was Montreal's Mark Recchi who retrieved it, before flipping it to longtime Canadiens' center and former team captain Guy Carbonneau, who at the time was a member of the visiting Dallas Stars. The Canadiens defeated the Stars 4-1, with a memorable post-game ceremony involving numerous former Canadiens captains and highlighted by a lengthy ovation given to Maurice "Rocket" Richard. The Bettman game puck is correct to the 1995-96 season, the only one in recent times in which generic NHL pucks, without team logos, were used. The league's decision to adopt a generic puck was not popular with fans and team logos were back to start the '96-97 campaign. Puck here shows good signs of game use, with wear to the logos and a few scuffs/scrapes and edge nicks and chips. Cherished for years by Guy Carbonneau, the stirring souvenir is accompanied by his signed letter of authenticity and a photo of him holding the puck.
