Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The first European-born player to suit up for the fabled Montreal Canadiens, Mats Naslund was the last Habs player to top 100 points in a season, with the Lady Byng Trophy won in 1988 for his gentlemanly conduct. From his third season in Quebec, one that witnessed an impressive 79 points scored including 42 goals, we have a photo-matched Canadiens jersey worn by the Swedish star in 1984-85. A washed out CCM label and “84 01” born-on date tag sit along with collar, with the sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 48. Styled with the most famous team crest in hockey, “26” appears over the sleeves and verso in white-over-blue tackle twill, with “Naslund” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. There is also a CCM crest with “R” over the reverse hem, with the garter-style fight strap intact.
Scuffs and scrapes are present over the lower front and team crest, with board burns and paint transfer over each sleeve. There is also pilling to the interior and collar, with numerous team repairs over the front (4), reverse (6), left sleeve (15) and right sleeve (11). Getty Image 86263401 (undated) has been matched to the washed-out diagonal black mark on the bottom of the team crest, and to the black mark on the top left edge of the "6" on the right arm.
