Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Three Montreal Canadiens and Maple Crispette kingpins are among our consignor's fascinating encapsulated lineup, with Howie Morenz, the man named (in 1950) hockey's most outstanding player of the first half of the 20th century appearing here. The icon’s mesmerizing look into the camera’s lense came at a time when Morenz was a defending Stanley Cup champion, having led, with linemates Aurele Joliat and Billy Boucher, Montreal to hockey’s ultimate prize in the spring of 1924, following his first NHL regular season. Discovered in a product put out by Montreal’s Maple Crispette Company, this example of card #12 has survived in attractive VG-EX 4 condition. The PSA Population Report informs that the firm has graded 29 such Morenz cards over the years, with this Pop 2 in the top ten, trailing just eight others.
