Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Drafted 44th overall at the 1977 NHL Entry Draft, netminder Steve Baker first spent a pair of seasons with New Haven in the AHL before helping to lead the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup semifinals in 1980-81. We have a fiberglass mask that was worn by the Boston native primarily as a "back-up" practice example during his time in Manhattan, from 1979-83. Produced by famous mask maker Greg Harrison, the familiar red, white and blue “target” design worn famously by Ken Dryden has been utilized, with this explained by Baker in his accompanying signed LOA as a “personal tribute” to the goalkeeper, with each playing for HOF coach Ned Harkness during their collegiate careers. Despite the absence of the original back plate and strapping, the vintage mask display wonderfully, with one of the original clasps missing.
There is some surface wear present, with a small amount of a sticky blue substance beneath the chin and under the top head clasp. The intact clasps also show heavy salting/oxidation, with this a testament to the mask's former prolonged use.
