Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The beginning of a new chapter, for the first time in over two decades the NHL and its supporters would not see Ray Bourque in his customary Bruins jersey in 1999-00, with the superstar bringing his immeasurable talent to an already strong and poised Colorado Avalanche squad. From his first season in Denver, we have a signed Avalanche jersey worn by the iconic blueliner. A Pro Player label and “58” size tag are affixed to the collar, with NHL and Pro Player crests over the reverse hem. Styled with a textured Aves team crest with embroidered detailing, “77” appears over the sleeves and verso, with matching alternate Bigfoot crests over each shoulder along with the NHL 2000 crest over the right breast. Ray has signed the back of the team crest in black marker adding “Game Worn”, with the signature displaying nicely. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany this desirable jersey. A portion of the sales from the Ray Bourque personal collection will benefit the Bourque Family Foundation.
Also sporting custom-shortened sleeves, game wear on the Bourque sweater consists of a few random marks including beneath the NHL 2000 crest, with a small hole near the left elbow and an additional mark beneath the left shoulder. We should also note that it is generally known that Bourque wore multiple jerseys within any given game or set, and that he has been known to gift game jerseys to people, including staff, with this particular jersey kept by the HOF superstar for his private collection.
