A 13-time All-Star, Ken Griffey Jr was awarded 10 Gold Glove Awards during his Hall of Fame career, with his 630 home runs placing him in the seventh spot all-time. We have a bat used by the superstar during his rookie season with Seattle, in 1989. A 34” Cooper Pro 100 C271 signature model with a weight of 31.8 ounces, the bat features a distinct spiral tape pattern over the handle that has been style-matched to other Griffey Jr rookie bats, with the length and weight stamped over the knob and “Bone” handwritten. According to the accompanying LOA from PSA/DNA, “Bone” refers to teammate Jay Buhner’s nickname, with the authenticators concluding that “we have several Buhner bats in our database with the same knob notation”, and, “Player characteristics appear to be that of Ken Griffey Jr. Possibly, the bat was used briefly by Buhner”. An original invoice and sworn statement of provenance will also accompany the bat, along with a 39 ½” x 4” x 6” display case.
Uncracked, the bat exhibits nice use, with the PSA/DNA LOA noting “Several ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on all sides of the barrel”, and “Ball marks include blue ink transfers”, as well as “blue bat rack streaks”.
