Born in Belleville, Ontario, thirteen years after the close of the Civil War, Richard “Dickie” Boon excelled as a sportsman, especially proficient in speed skating, rowing, canoeing and hockey. First starring for Montreal’s "Young Crystals" in the mid-1890s, Boon would progress to the fabled Montreal Hockey Club in 1899, and hoist Lord Stanley’s hardware twice during his six seasons with the winged wheelers. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a typed letter signed by the 1952 HOF inductee. At just over 7” x 10”, the single page correspondence is on Boon’s personal letterhead and dated Aug 7, 1959, with the superstar relating his possible attendance for an upcoming HOF luncheon. Signed in blue ballpoint, the signature is absolutely flawless and remains as bold as the day it was penned, with just light edge wear to the letter itself. Boon would pass in 1961 at the age of 83.
