Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Carving out one of the NHL’s most historic dynasties; winning four Stanley Cup championships in just six seasons, the Detroit Red Wings – on the strength of Gordie Howe’s league-leading 86 points – would finish first overall at the conclusion of the 1951-52 season. The Leafs and Canadiens would then both serve as victims, with the Red Wings going undefeated during the playoffs to claim their fifth championship in franchise history. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo team-signed by the 1952 Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings. At 8 ½” x 10 ½” and picturing the full club and team management in the official team photo with all names listed beneath, 16 have signed near their image in ballpoint, including deceased HOFers Sawchuk, Howe, Kelly, Pronovost, Lindsay, Delvecchio (rookie season sig, differs slightly from later signatures) and coach Tommy Ivan, along with Prystai, Pavelich, Skov, Leswick, Goldham, Woit, Wilson, Wilson (trainer) and Mattson (trainer). The signatures display beautifully – including the Sawchuk, with some corner and edge wear along with a few minor creases and surface indentations. A notation by Hamlyn over the reverse states that the photo was received from Red Kelly, on Feb 3, 1953. A JSA LOA will accompany.
