Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
A veteran of over 1,100 NHL contests despite never being drafted, Mike Keane dressed for six different clubs during his career, with three Stanley Cup championships won during the 1990s, each with a differnet team. We have a Dallas Stars jersey worn by the Winnipeg native during the 1999 Stanley Cup finals. A sewn-down CCM label and size “54” fly tag grace the collar, with CCM and NHL crests over the reverse hem. Styled with a textured Stars team crest with embroidered detailing, “12” appears over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with the Stanley Cup patch over the right breast. We should note that the jersey was most likely alternated with others and worn throughout the playoffs and Finals due to the amount of wear present. The team patch sits on the inside hem, with a matching LOA to accompany from the Stars.
Only six jerseys were originally made available to the public that were worn in the Finals from the Stars. The players kept both their white and green sets, but there were three players who wore two sets of jerseys per game (Belfour, Skrudland, and Keane). MeiGray was able to sell one white and one green of each of these three players. A few others have made it out to auction from what the players kept, but this was one of the "original six" sold by MeiGray. This specimen sports especially heavy wear, with puck marks, scuffs, burns and pulls throughout, with some pilling beneath the fight strap. There are also team repairs, with a few large examples over each sleeve.
