The Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 1969, Serge Savard was one of the last remaining Original Six players, with fourteen seasons spent representing the Montreal Canadiens, from 1967-81. The four-time All-Star also hoisted Lord Stanley’s hardware eight times as a player, with HOF enshrinement occurring in 1986. From the Stanley Cup championships season of 1978-79 – the fourth straight for Montreal, we have a signed Canadiens jersey worn by the Landrienne native. A Wilson label with “48” sizing is affixed to the collar, with a “78” year swatch placed just above the inside hem. Styled with the famous Canadiens “CH” team crest fully administered in layered tackle twill, “8” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Savard” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. The Senator has signed the reverse “1” in blue marker, adding his HOF induction year, with no issues for the attractive autograph.
The jersey exhibits great use, with scrapes and scuffs over the lower front, along with board burns over each sleeve, with a small resulting hole over each elbow. There are also numerous team repairs, with examples over the front (3), reverse (2), left sleeve (10) and right sleeve (5). Getty Image #845735766 from Feb 27, 1979, appears to be showing the perfect placement of the team crest along with the washed-out black mark in the lower portion of the team crest, but the image is not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
