Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Absolutely charming and the first of its type we’ve ever handled, we have a collection of homemade hockey player pieces from the 1930s, with examples made from hockey cards. Designed for some sort of homemade game, with a small net originally fastened to a pair of child’s alphabet blocks included, each cardboard player has been affixed to a small wooden base, with the majority hand-coloured. A total of 68 players are present, with 12 detached from their bases and some of the bases missing. 18 are actually players made from trimmed cards including the 1933-34 Ice Kings and Canadian Chewing Gum sets, with players like Frank Finnigan, Bill Beveridge, Sylvio Mantha, Ebbie Goodfellow and others. The majority of the homemade examples are teams such as “NB” (New Brunswick?), Nova Scotia, Quebec, “O” (Ottawa?), Boston and others. Most of the pieces show heavy wear with toning, with a number showing damage. This item is relisted from our Spring 2019 auction as Brian Battles from AL (USA) failed to honor his bid.
