Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Beginning with Toronto when the club was still recognized as the St Pats, Hap Day would spend 10 seasons representing the Blue and White, later contributing a second decade to the Leafs from behind the bench. We have a collection of vintage Maple Leafs documents totaling 5 from the 1940s/50s, with each signed by the Hall of Fame member. Included, we have a 1952 Standard Assignment Agreement between Toronto and the Pittsburgh Hockey Club for the services of John J. Poland, a 1949 Loan Agreement between Toronto and Pittsburgh for Gilles Mayer, a 1956 Try-Out Agreement for Edward Plata, a 1946 Option Agreement for Lawrie May and a 1947 Form “C” Agreement for Eugene Martin. Each document feature’s a gorgeous dark ink Day signature, with just the example on the Loan Agreement infringed upon by another signature. The documents themselves show handling wear commensurate with their former use, with fold lines, staple holes and toning, along with the odd crease or wrinkle. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961, Day would pass almost three decades later in 1990, at the age of 88.
