Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Tracing their history back to an international contest against a Winnipeg hockey club in the late 19th century, the University of Minnesota’s first attempt to organize a varsity hockey team occurred in November of 1900, with the first season of the current program played in 1920-21. A rare survivor, we have a vintage University of Minnesota Golden Gophers road jersey from the mid-1960s. A Sand Knit label with “44” sizing is affixed to the inner seam, with no labeling along the collar. Featuring “Gophers” placed diagonally across the chest in individual gold-over-white tackle twill letters, “17” appears over the left breast and verso in matching material, with the original tie-string intact on the tie-neck collar. Exhibiting light wear which includes a small hole over the lower reverse, the scarce durene sweater remains in beautiful condition, ideal for display.
