Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Arguably the most aesthetically pleasing of all vintage sports uniforms, early wool hockey jerseys carry a certain gravitas, and when factoring in their severe rarity, attractive and well designed specimens are always cherished by collectors. We have a pleasing example, with this “Chevron” sweater hailing from the circa-1940s originally worn by a team sponsored by the mobile gas producer. With no labeling present and measuring-out to roughly a modern size 44, a solid maroon body is featured, accented with fully green and gold striping bands. The Chevron team crest is identical to the company’s vintage emblem, administered with heat pressed gold letters over a felt crest. Displaying admirably with bright and vibrant colours, there are small holes present throughout, with a few larger examples over the lower right sleeve.
